Delirium

Delirium (Delirium, #1)Title:Delirium
Author: Lauren Oliver
Series: Delirium # 1
Published: Feb. 01, 2011 by HarperTeen
Format: Hardcover
Pages: 441
Genre: YA Dystopian

My rating: ★ ★ ★ ★

Summary:Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn’t understand that once love -- the deliria -- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the government demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holoway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.
But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love.

My Thoughts:

'' LOVE... it kills you both when you have it and when you don't''

Amor deliria nervosa, the deadliest of all deadly things, is a disease that people in the society are afraid of. And to prevent the disease from happening, they undergo a surgical procedure when they reached 18.

I would say, this book is a typical dystopian type that the people are controlled by the society and there are few people who resisted it. Lena, our protagonist, cannot wait for her procedure to be done with. She's even counting the days of. She wanted to be safe from the disease. And then she met Alex... Through Alex she discovered the mystery of love and the lies beneath the society. Alex character is amazing. He is like a light in the dark world of Lena. He thought Lena how to love and be loved in return.

The plot was great and the characters are well developed. Although i'm not really convinced at first on Lena's and Alex relationship. But I was blown away at the last chapter that it finally convinced me to believe in thie love story. While reading this, my emotions are like in a roller coaster ride. Frustation and anger will swelled up my heart one moment and then compassion and affection the next.

Delirium is a fantastic book. Lauren Oliver's writing is so beautiful and lyrical and so so amazing. It will truly captivate your heart. It is a compelling story with a very powerful message and lesson : LOVE AND SACRIFICE.

'' I LOVE YOU. REMEMBER. THEY CANNOT TAKE IT''

Paranormalcy

ParanormalcyTitle: Paranormalcy
Author: Kiersten White
Series: Paranormalcy # 1
Published: Sept. 01, 2010 by HarperTeen
Format: Hardcover
Pages: 335
Genre: YA Paranormal

My rating:
★ ★ ★ ★

Summary:
Weird as it is working for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, Evie’s always thought of herself as normal. Sure, her best friend is a mermaid, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she's falling for a shape-shifter, and she's the only person who can see through paranormals' glamours, but still. Normal.
Only now paranormals are dying, and Evie's dreams are filled with haunting voices and mysterious prophecies. She soon realizes that there may be a link between her abilities and the sudden rash of deaths. Not only that, but she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
So much for normal.

My Thoughts:

5 reasons why I love paranormalcy:

1) Paranormal Overload!!! Fairies, wolves, vampires, mermaid, shapeshifter. Anything you want, you can find it there.

2) Evie is a very likable and easy to relate to. She is fun and hilarious, sassy and strong. I love her sarcastic and witty remarks. She is immature and whines a lot ( I will if im in her place). She's tough and soft and vulnerable at the same time.

3) I love the adventure in Evie's ''job'' at IPCA. The bag and tag thingy, I find it amusing.

4( Of course, Reth and Lend.

Lend is such a sweet sweet guy. He will do anything for Evie.

Reth, oh a mysterious and arrogant fairy. He is such a jerk. I do have a love-hate relationship with him, but hey fairies are supposed to be sly, cunning and wicked right? So in the end, he is OK in my book.

5) And finally, the plot! Eventhough it is paranormal, it is refreshing to read once in a while a story that is mysterious but still on the light side. I can't stop myself from flipping the pages til the end. It is a fast pace read that will keep you entertained.

Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie (Books of Faerie, #2)Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie by Maggie Stiefvater

I really, really love Lament, so I'm not really sure why I can't finish Ballad. Maybe I found the plot to slow and I'm not really into the characters. Will definitely pick up this book again to continue reading it but I'm not sure when.

JESSICA'S GUIDE to DATING on the DARK SIDE by Beth Fantaskey

Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side (Jessica, #1)Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I had so much fun reading this book. I love the characters, most especially Lucius. Jessica is quite ok, a typical teenager who wants to fit in. And imagine her surprise when she found out that she is a Romanian vampire princess. She resented it at first, and she even hate Lucius. I might say that I didn't really like Lucius too. But as the story goes on, I learned so many good things about him. It is quite hilarious to read how Lucius struggles and adapt the american traditions. Oh, and I love his letters! His letters to Vasile reporting his progress were changed dramatically. He is motivated to fulfill his duty but as the story progresses, it slowly turned into love. That's how Lucius and Jessica love grows too. Slowly, definitely not rushed, that makes it so believable. When Jessica realized that she is in love with Lucius, I am already in love with him too.I admire his strength. His ability to endure pain stoically. And his willingness to sacrifice everything for Jessica, even his own existence.

I really, really love this book! It was created fantastically and well balanced. The plot are great and even the characters (including the minor one). The ending is awesome but i want more!!!

And I want my own Lucius Vladescu!!!

NIGHTSHADE by Andrea Cremer

Nightshade (Nightshade, #1)Nightshade by Andrea Cremer

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The first time I saw Nightshade, I fell in love with it immediately. The cover is oh so gorgeous. But I'm kinda hesitant to pick it up because of the hype on this book and the fact that it is about werewolves. I'm not really a big fan of wolves. But I gave it a chance just because of the cover (yeah, I'm weird).

And then when I started reading it, I fell in love with it again. After reading 5 chapters, I AM HOOKED. I love the world Andrea Cremer presented to us. It is full of magic, mystery and adventure. CALLA (nightshade alpha) is a fun, strong, witty, independent and sometimes naive. I love her character so much, how she handled being an alpha so well... REN, oh my, how can I describe him without drooling so much... Gorgeous, sexy bad guy image, sarcastic, jerk, so full of himself but has a very soft part in his heart. And he is also an alpha (Bane) who is destined to be with Calla. Calla can't deny that she has a strong attraction to Ren. But of course, it won't be complete without Shay, the mysterious and attractive human who mingled in their world. Calla saved him, which is forbidden and create complications in her world and her heart. And what I like the most is that the members of the 2 pack was given enough exposure to really know them...

Nightshade is full of action, there is no boring or dull moments. Not a single chapter. It is a sexy, thrilling and unpredictable ride. So many surprises and shocking revelations. Definitely highly recommended, a super wonderful book.

And yeah, TEAM REN all the way baby!!!

NEED by Carrie Jones

Need (Need, #1)Need by Carrie Jones

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really had fun reading Need. The story is engaging enough and the characters are likable. I was fascinated by Zara's way of dealing with her nerves, memorizing and chanting phobias?! How unique is that! It's the first time I've encountered something like it. Zara is just a typical teenager that we can really relate to and she has a unique personality. But sometimes she is too stubborn... I was easily compelled to Nick's way of acting as a hero...

The paranormal fantasy, romance and adventure were carefully woven into something amazing, though sometimes I found it too predictable. But nonetheless, I still enjoyed reading it. I can't believe I've waited this long to finally read NEED. But so glad I already did. Will need to pick up Captivate and Entice soon...

IF I STAY by Gayle Forman

If I Stay (If I Stay, #1)
Add caption
In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeen-year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck...
A sophisticated, layered, and heartachingly beautiful story about the power of family and friends, the choices we all make—and the ultimate choice Mia commands.

What would you do if you had to choose?

I was captivated by the tagline of the book and I found myself asking what would I do?

It was about Mia, a girl who had everything. A family whom she loves the most. Her boyfriend is so gorgeous, adoring, and who loves her back dearly. And a bright future in music under her hands. And then an accident changes everything. Now Mia needs to make the most important decision in her life.

This book is tragic yes but somehow full of love. It makes me realize the importance of life. And the impact of our decisions, our choices... Mia faces it all... And surprise, suprise the one who makes me cry here is not Mia but Gramps. But you need to read it to find out why. Everything is tackled here including the part when you learned how to let someone go. It is a heartbreaking, beautifully crafted book that for sure will leave an imprint in your heart.

THE HOLLOW by Jessica Verday

The Hollow (The Hollow, #1)
Add caption
When Abbey's best friend, Kristen, vanishes at the bridge near Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, everyone else is all too quick to accept that Kristen is dead and rumors fly that her death was no accident. Abbey goes through the motions of mourning her best friend, but privately, she refuses to believe that Kristen is really gone. Then she meets Caspian, the gorgeous and mysterious boy who shows up out of nowhere at Kristen's funeral, and keeps reappearing in Abbey's life. Caspian clearly has secrets of his own, but he's the only person who makes Abbey feel normal again...but also special.

Just when Abbey starts to feel that she might survive all this, she learns a secret that makes her question everything she thought she knew about her best friend. How could Kristen have kept silent about so much? And could this secret have led to her death? As Abbey struggles to understand Kristen's betrayal, she uncovers a frightening truth that nearly unravels her—one that will challenge her emerging love for Caspian, as well as her own sanity.

I enjoyed reading The Hollow but i won't say that I love the book. i'm not actually expecting a good read coming from this one because of the mixed reviews I've heard about it but surprisingly I've found myself captivated. It is an easy read, really, because I cannot put the book down. Ironically, I really don't feel any connections to the characters and the plot has many holes and some unanswered questions. And what a bummer! a major cliffhanger ending that makes my toes curl and make me want to read the second book (the haunted) immediately...Yes it is interesting enough for me to pick up the 2nd book and read more about Caspian and Abbey!

REMEMBER ME? by Sophie Kinsella

With her mind still stuck three years in reverse, Lexi greets this brave new world determined to be the person she…well, seems to be. Suddenly Lexi is scrambling to catch her balance. Her new life, it turns out, comes complete with secrets, schemes, and intrigue. How on earth did all this happen? Will she ever remember? And what will happen when she does? (GoodReads)

I so so so love this book!!! Sophie Kinsella never fails to deliver us a witty, funny, romantic chicklit novel. She make sure that we're going to love her main girl no matter what. This books keeps me wide awake till 4am cause I can't stop my hands from turning the pages til the end. Every now and then I found myself smiling, chuckling and laughing out loud from the amusing things ''lexie'' thinking and saying. This is definitely unputdownable book. Im so addicted to sophie kinsella's writing.

HALO by Alexendra Adornetto

Halo (Halo, #1)
Three angels- Gabriel, the warrior; Ivy, the healer; and Bethany, the youngest and most human- are sent by Heaven to bring good to a world falling under the influence of darkness. They must work hard to conceal their luminous glow, superhuman powers, and, most dangerous of all, their wings, all the while avoiding all human attachments.

Then Bethany meets Xavier Woods, and neither of them is able to resist the attraction between them. Gabriel and Ivy do everything in their power to intervene, but the bond between Xavier and Bethany seems too strong.

The angel’s mission is urgent, and dark forces are threatening. Will love ruin Bethany or save her? (GoodReads)

I actually enjoyed reading Halo. Maybe its because of angels that's why I love the book.. Oh well, halo didn't disappoint. It is a well crafted book (and I am really surprised that alexandra is just 18) that I really can't wait to finish it but at the same time wishing that those 500 pages will stretch longer.. Bethany, Gabriel, and Ivy are the angels in this book who has a mission to maintain peace and order on earth. But of course, the story plot focuses more on the love story of Bethany and Xavier (the human). But honestly, I really didn't feel the connection between bethany and xavier. I think that their romance were kinda rushed. It's like they've seen each other one day and then the next day, BAM! They are so in love that they can't function anymore without each other. I really didn't buy it. Maybe I am more interested with Gabriel because he is so so mysterious and gorgeous too! But nonetheless Halo is such a wondrous read that I found myself asking for more. Will definitely read HADES
